The only thing about this hotel that feels like 4-stars is the price. I wish there was a way we could appeal Expedia's ratings. Let's put aside that someone with key card access and a master code robbed our safe and stole my wife's jewellery - that's a whole other thing. When we arrived I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on cleanliness (clean it was not). I was also willing to look past the horrible sewer smell permeating the corridors and our room (very old building, below-grade, old plumbing) and the mould. But when our family of 5 used up the 1.5 rolls of toilet paper they provided by the first morning, and we went to ask the for more, we were met with the response "we're out, you'll have to wait for the delivery later. Here's a box of facial tissue". I was speechless. So I went to the supermarket right across the street and bought our own 4-pack of toilet paper. I left one roll with the lady at the front desk in case any other guests had an emergency. I've been to a restaurant where the manager ran across the street to buy a drink they didn't have if a guest asked for it. Why did I have to procure my own toilet paper in an $800/night room? Where's the customer service attitude? The manager later denied it even happened. I'll expect a rebuttal from them in these reviews, given their past activity, but I have no reason to make this up. It's too bad, because we love Amsterdam, but this hotel experience soured my family on going back.
