The Adela is located in a fascinating, historic part of town. Gritty, but in an interesting way though probably not for everyone. So location? I liked it. View of the Harbor? ditto. HOWEVER, the room itself is a problem. I hate to do this, because the staff is really nice but....the photos vastly exaggerate the size and condition of the rooms. My "deluxe" double was cramped, the carpets are dated and not so clean. The bed was moderately comfortable. The "desk" looks like it was salvaged from an elementary school in 1950 --completely scratched and scarred wood--and the "easy chair" is old and worn with badly cracked leather, essentially unusable. So four star hotel? Um, no way. And ok, I know this can happen in any hotel these days but the deal breaker is: BEDBUGS. Yeah. I was there three nights and started noticing those telltale red itchy welts on night two. Maybe they are not in all the rooms, but they sure were in mine. So now I"m heading home where I will throw all my clothes in a hot dryer and toss out my suitcase, which luckily I was thinking about dumping anyway. I'd stay away.
