Great position to Asian food precinct. Very tired hallways and rooms. Considering the size of the room and lack of tea choices and not clean and uncomfortable pillows it was not good value. Beautiful foyer but was a pity this wasn’t consistent with the rooms.

We liked the heritage perspective and our room on the first stay was large and comfortable, the second stay it was supposed to be the same room type as the first stay but although it was the same it was considerably smaller in room size which made it difficult with the luggage we had.

Location is almost perfect and easy to go everywhere. The room was just next to the elevator and very noisy and couldn’t sleep well though, thank a for the location, we did enjoy our Sydney trip. Thank you.

The location was close to the train station where we were boarding the Indian Pacific train. One staff member went out of her way to carry our suitcases down steps we could not manage and and took us to the area to get a taxi.

For our purposes, as we are regularly accessing Sydney from the country, The Great Southern Hotel is extremely convenient. It is an older hotel but has well-considered facilities, a comfortable mattress, and a clean modern bathroom all at a very acceptable price for an inner CBD accommodation. The position is EXCELLENT with access to buses, regional and suburban rail, and light rail, all within a hundred metres or so, and the International and Domestic airports on a direct line from Central Station which is about two hundred metres away from the hotel. The restaurant has a variety of breakfasts at very acceptable prices and there is easy access to many very good value restaurants of high quality. We will definitely come again.

We've been staying at GSH for over 20 years. Its got so much going for it in terms of location, friendly, welcoming staff and always clean and tidy rooms. However, the actual beds, that this time I paid $200 for on a Wednesday night, don't seem to have been updated since we first stayed in the early 2000s. It was the most uncomfortable, painful sleep that I've experienced in some time. For goodness sake, update your mattresses or charge what they are worth! Adding a chiro bill to the accomodation cost is not a desired outcome.

Firstly, the best location, excellent staff, clean enough but air con rattled so much we thought it would fall out of the ceiling. We turned it off and just used the ceiling fan whic was very quiet and adequate. The pictures of the rooms while booking are quite missleading as rooms are smaller than they look. Also the noise at night from outside (some air intake fan/blower) was quite loud. It was a good job we were absolutly exausted and got some good sleep desipite this noise. Requires some maint like the shower door doesnt close fully, which is the reason the bathroom door has serious water damage at the the bottom. If it wasn't for the outside noise we would possibly stay here again as the price was reasonable. More like a 3 star hotel than is 4 star rating. Our thanks to the very helpful staff and quick check-in
