Reasonable hotel in a great location
Really friendly check-in, check-out staff at reception. I have stayed there many times for its proximity to Central Station and the light rail and, unlike at a lot of more "up-market" hotels, I have never had to wait for a room if I have arrived before check-in time. It's always clean and comfortable, there are mugs not cups for your drinks, and good television coverage (none of this having to stream TV channels from your own device). My only minor gripe is that my in-room safe was at. the bottom of the wardrobe - a bit hard to access for those of us of a certain age and anyone with limited mobility.

lackluster hotel in a convenient neighborhood
The bed was old and uncomfortable. The room was very small. There were no comfortable chairs anywhere in the hotel. No microwave. Small refrigerator on the floor. Why do hotels put small refrigerators on the floor??? There is a nice guest laundry but the staff would not provide coins for the laundry machines.

Great budget hotel, with a heritage background. Very close to Central railway station and also has Light Rail out front. Twin room was very clean, air con and TV worked. Had a nice continental breakfast for $9 in downstairs dining area. I will return for any future stays in Sydney.

Stayed on the 2nd floor. Room was outdated and old. Mattress was uncomfortable and you could feel springs. Shower screen could use some upkeep. Room was noisy as you could hear others across hall, doors closing/shutting. Late into evening and early in the morning. This may have been because of a school group? staying there as well.

Great Southern is a lovely hotel in the heart of Sydney! Many must see attractions are within walking distance and if needed the main light rail station is only a block away. Also theres a great flea market right across the street to buy souvenirs.
